What we do

Ullswater Catchment Management CIC works with farmers and landowners to improve flood resilience and the natural environment through practical projects and solutions. We believe farming and nature can exist and flourish together. By improving soil and habitat management, farming can be part of the solution to nature recovery, carbon sequestration, and flood resilience, whilst also producing sustainable healthy food. Ullswater Catchment Management CIC are based in Ullswater. The majority of our work is in the Ullswater and Matterdale areas, but we have delivered work throughout Cumbria.

Working with Farmers

Our projects are varied but include river restorations, wetland and pond creation, hedgerow creation and restoration, wood pasture creation, and wildflower planting. Many of our projects are compatible with, and usually enhance, the environmental land management schemes (ELMs) that are available to farmers and landowners. Projects are proposed and led by the farmers and landowners, and the work is completed by either ourselves or local contractors. We use supplies from local businesses where possible, to help support the local economy.
