Restoring a Cumbrian stream

Restoration of a Cumbrian stream

This stream had been moved historically to try and improve the agricultural land, but unfortunately had the opposite effect. Once moved it was nearly 5 feet higher than the bottom of the flood plain, and in heavy rain used to overtop its channel and sit on the flood plain for weeks. By moving the stream to the lowest point of the field it still floods in heavy rain, but now it drains the land naturally also.

This is a win for upland water storage and for improving the agricultural land
