Flood bank reprofiling
Thackthwaite
This beck has had flood banks created in the 1980's in attempt to improve agricultural land, but no longer works. The banks are in disrepair and are now overwhelmed in very heavy rain. The problem here is that the water can't return to the beck when the flood recedes due to the banks. We are in the process of removing and reprofiling these flood banks, to allow the beck to spill onto its floodplain in heavy rain, but also to allow the ground to drain once the level of the beck drops. Once completed this will be reseeded to become a wild flower meadow.
